Garden Of Life FucoProtein Bars

A few years ago, I came to the conclusion that protein bars are not a viable way to get a high quality source of protein, carbs or fats. They are typically just a candy bar “spiked with some (cheap soy) protein”. To this day, there are very few protein or meal replacement bars that fall out of this category and are in my opinion worth any serious consideration. Its hard to find a protein bar that does not contain soy protein, high fructose corn syrup, hydrolyzed gelatin, sugar alcohols or hydrogenated oils. The FucoProtein bar by Garden of Life come close as a high quality meal replacement bar that is worth consideration. They also contain Fucoxanthin which is a marine derived antioxidant that has been shown in some studies to help with weight loss. Though this is not the reason I bought these bars, some of these additional benefits don’t hurt its cause. To me the FucoProtein bars are a decent investment for when you need a high quality snack on the run.

Depending on the flavour, each 55 gram bar provides 210 (or 220) total calories. They contain either 6 or 8 grams of fat, 14 grams of protein and 27 or 29 grams of carbohydrates. The protein sources include Organic Whey Protein Concentrate from grass fed free-range cows and Brown Rice Protein Concentrate. The carbs come from Organic Pure Wildflower Honey and the bars also provide 5 grams of fiber from a combination of acacia, chia seeds and meal. Both the Chocolate Macadamia Nut and Peanut Butter Crunch flavours also contain extra virgin coconut oil and 7.5 mg of concentrated brown seaweed Fucoxanthin.

I think that GOL’s FucoProtein bar is a decent protein bar for when you are in a hurry. Both flavours taste good - they don’t quite taste like candy bars and that’s because they are not processed to the same level and don’t contain the ingredients found in those inferior products. But the trade off is well worth it, at least in my opinion. Garden of Life is well known for their health and nutrition product line and they do not disappoint with the FucoProtein Bars.

I like these protein bars. My favorite is the peanut butter flavor. And it doesn’t hurt that Garden of Life makes high quality products.
